Our approach
Learning by experience.
Theory you don’t apply is soon forgotten. What you experience yourself stays with you, like riding a bike. That’s why InsideOut is built on experiential learning.
01
Practice in real life
You practise new skills in real life, in the situations you actually face.
02
Just enough theory
You get exactly the theory you need to make sense of what you experience.
03
Your own path
Every participant finds their own path, with personal learning goals and our support.
How it works

Selection
Get selected for the programme
We select twelve motivated candidates per group. We put each group together with care, so participants challenge each other, complement each other and learn from one another. Thanks to the MDT subsidy, taking part is free for anyone aged 30 or under.

The programme
Start the programme
Every session is tailored to the participants’ learning goals.
- Core elements, complemented by elements we tailor to your group.
- Each session builds on the one before.
- A personal coach who knows the programme and supports you every step of the way.
- We close with a personal final presentation: a special session that shows how far you’ve come.
The science
Grounded in science.
Why does learning by experience work so well? Three insights from research into the brain and behaviour change.
01
Your brain changes through what you do.
Every time you consciously choose a different behaviour, you activate new connections in your brain. The more often you repeat it, the stronger they become. This is called neuroplasticity: your brain stays adaptable throughout your life. That’s why, unlike your IQ, your emotional intelligence can keep on developing.
02
Experience goes deeper than understanding.
Insight alone rarely changes behaviour. You can know exactly how to stay calm in a difficult conversation and still shut down when it counts. What you experience with your whole being, with your body, your emotions and your mind, your brain remembers better than what you only understand in your head.
03
Repetition makes it last.
A new pattern takes effort at first. After a few weeks of daily practice, it already feels noticeably easier. Research from University College London shows that a new habit takes 66 days on average to become automatic. In four months, you have more than enough time.
Expert team
Backed by experts.
Ilse Huiskes and Laura de Smidt
The content of InsideOut is strengthened by an expert team with backgrounds in remedial education, behavioural science, and child and adolescent psychology. Ilse and Laura specialise in developmental psychology, brain development and social-emotional growth, and advise InsideOut on its content.
Before every programme, we tailor the content to age, stage of development and context. This way we combine experiential learning with a solid educational and psychological foundation. That increases effectiveness, safeguards quality and strengthens the lasting impact of InsideOut.
